About Us

My name is Yelly de Jong, and I look forward to welcoming you in our lovely home. I am of Dutch origin and have have been married to my musician husband, John, for thirty years. We have lived in the north-west of England for the last eighteen years, and I work as a cookery teacher. High Chapel House is not only a B&B but also the home of Cook in Cumbria, where I teach cookery days - everything from traditional Cumbrian recipes to exotic dishes from around the world. It’s great fun! We have small groups of people that join us from around 10am to 4pm on occasional days - we look at different recipes, try things out, and make something for people to take home. If you’re lucky you may be able to taste the results!

The daytime cookery days only happen a couple of times a week, and take place downstairs in the kitchen, so you will have plenty of peace in your B&B room if you just want to relax. Of course you would be very welcome to join us for one of our cookery courses, but you would have to book in advance. See www.cookincumbria.com, or just give me call.
